Cucumber water is easy to enjoy at home and does have some incremental health benefits relative to a plain glass of water.
Many people enjoy drinking infused water, like cucumber water, far more than regular water. And, when something tastes good, you tend to want more of it, correct? In an era where people aren’t drinking enough water, making infused water recipes at home can provide a win-win situation.

It Keeps You Hydrated
Too many of us don’t drink enough water. We like things that taste good. Better tasting water just may prompt you to drink more of it which is a win-win for your body.
Cucumber Water Is Good for Your Muscles
Cucumbers contain silica, a trace mineral necessary to keep connective tissue healthy. A good idea might be to add a few slices to your workout water bottle.
It Helps Transport Calcium to Bones
Cucumbers are rich in Vitamin K, which helps transport calcium to bones. In fact one cucumber averages 22% of your daily recommended intake. Just remember that Vitamin K is most dense near the cucumber’s skin. Peeling the cucumber decreases the amount of Vitamin K that you’ll receive.
It’s Good for Your Skin
Staying hydrated is key to good skin but the silica and antioxidants in cucumbers also help skin stay clear and supple. Cumbers have pantothenic acid or vitamin B-5 in them and some swear (though others disagree) that this vitamin has helped calm acne. Advocates of cucumber water remove the soaked cucumbers from cold cucumber water and use them to reduce acne redness. Some online sources suggest that keeping well hydrated may reduce odor-causing bacteria in your mouth. Apparently, if you hold a slice of cucumber at the roof of your mouth with your tongue this helps boost saliva production which washes away bacteria that causes bad breath.

Easy Cucumber Water Recipe

Description
Sure, it takes just a few minutes to fill a pitcher (or glass) of water and slice a few cucumbers into it. However, cucumber water and other infused waters will be far more refreshing after it sits in the refrigerator for several hours.

Ingredients
One medium cucumber
Large pitcher of water
Lemon, lime, mint, strawberries or other ingredients (optional)

Instructions
Scrub and slice the cucumber into 1/2″ slices.
Place as much sliced cucumber as you like into a pitcher. Reserve a few extra for garnishes.
Place other optional ingredients into the pitcher.
Fill the pitcher with water.
Let the flavor infuse into the water by leaving it at room temperature for 1-2 hours or in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours before drinking.
Strain the cucumbers out of the water (or leave them in, if you like).
Garnish the glass with a cucumber slice or let a slice or two simply float in the water.

Notes
Don’t leave cucumbers in the water for more than 12 hours as they will tend to soften. In fact, a good rule of thumb is if you have any infused water left over after a day, remove all fruit and herbs before refrigerating the rest.

How To Select A Cucumber
Cucumbers should be firm, not wrinkly, and a medium to dark green color. Grocery stores sometimes put an edible wax on skins of fruits and vegetables that otherwise might store poorly. Wax helps retain moisture and serves are a barrier to bacteria and algae. While the FDA says that edible wax is not harmful some people do not prefer its taste or texture. You can avoid wax by buying organic cucumbers. Cucumber skin contains vitamins so try to avoid peeling the cucumbers, if possible.
According to WHFoods, you may want to consider buying organic anyway as its thought that conventional cucumbers might be more prone to heavy metal contamination.

Cucumbers originated in India, and were introduced to Europe by Greeks or Romans. They are listed among the foods eaten in ancient Ur, and are referenced in the legend of Gilgamesh. Christopher Columbus brought cucumbers to the Americas in 1494.
